Tea or Coffee Image 4

We’ve all heard of people bringing teabags on holiday abroad or know people who are not themselves until their first coffee of the day. These two beverages are so part and parcel of our daily life that it is hard to think of a time when people did not drink them. This talk will explore the introduction of tea and coffee into Europe and will also examine the thriving coffee culture in 17th century Dublin; tea’s central role in 18th century trade and politics and the coffee cans and tea bowls found during excavations at Rathfarnham Castle. Admission free. No booking required.
